Essential Question 7

You are beginning the process of developing a company. What are some of the things you think you need to do to start a company? Explain.

Yesterday we were assigned to groups to start creating our own company. Starting a company of your own is not necessarily something that can just be thrown together. building your own company takes a lot of hard work and dedication, to accomplish the goals that you need to reach in order to be successful. I think that some things we will need to do to start a company would be first to get a catchy name. It all starts with a name. If our business has a name that sounds catchy, and fun, and is something that people will remember, then it could bring a lot of business to our company. Next we will need to figure up what kinda of different products and services we would like to offer to our customers. once we have our products and services established, then we need to learn the process. By this I mean that we need to have a game plan. We need to discuss the processes it will take to manage and produce our products, and ensure that it will be affordable and distributed from a convenient location, maybe in a very populated city or town. Once we have a place, product, services, and game plan, then we need to start advertising. We need to get our name out there so that people know about our company. This is what we will need to do to get our company started correctly, and efficiently.

Essential Question 6

Explain what has been your favorite activity during the first 6 weeks of class and how you created it. Explain in detail. Add the image to your blog.

During the first six weeks we executed many activities. Out of these, I would have to say that my favorite was the realistic card design.

I decided on making a realistic Christmas card. To make this card, I first went onto Adobe Photoshop. I needed a background for my card, so I used the rectangle tool to cover the document. I then used the color effect tab to change the coloring so that it was a bright red, with a white diagonal stripe down the center. Next it was time to decorate! I used the shape tool to create, and place a white bow in the center of the diagonal stripe. Next, I used the shape tool again to place many blue, and white snowflakes on the card. I placed a green tree on the card, and continued using the shape tool to put little flakes on the tree to make it look like snow. I then took the paintbrush tool, and placed little white stars on the background of the card. Lastly, I used the text tool to write "Wishing You a Very Merry Christmas," on my realistic card design. This was my favorite of all the activities, because it was fun to create, and decorate your very own card.

Essential Question 5

What is the KISS theory? Why is it important to remember when designing logos?

The KISS theory means to keep it simple, stupid. This theory is important to remember when designing logos for a lot of reasons. One of the mains reasons is because when you are designing a logo, most places, and companies don't want something that is too complex. Take Nike for example, they have the same font for every shirt, shorts, shoes, or any product that it is written on, the lettering doesn't change. They do this so that when you see a product with Nike written on it, you know that it is the same company every time, because their logo doesn't change. It's the same thing with their famous Nike "swoosh." You will always recognize the Nike "swoosh," because it is simple, and it never changes. When designing logos, another reason to keep it simple, is for the fact that someone is going to be using your logo. In class we did designs for the "Own It!" logo, the "RTC Auto Service" logo, and the "RTC Industrial Maintenance" logo. All of these must be kept simple, because they could end up somewhere on a shirt, shorts, or anywhere else just like any other logo that has been created. You must keep your logo simple for this fact. If a logo is too complex, it is going to be very difficult to reproduce, and print onto something else. This is why the KISS theory is very important to remember when creating a logo.

Essential Question 4

You were introduced to Illustrator today. What type of graphics does Illustrator create? How is that different than Photoshop? Which do you think you like better and why?

We learned a few different things about Adobe Illustrator today. Illustrator is mostly used for creating images, logos, or billboards. On Illustrator you are able to use many different graphics. You are able to take the pencil tool and create shapes or lines, in which you are able to take different tools, like the text tool, and follow the path vertically, or even fill in the shape itself. Illustrator is used mostly for those things, because no matter what the shape or size is that you make the image, it never becomes pixelated like the images do in Photoshop. I think that Photoshop is much better for using when you are editing or changing a picture. Illustrator is better used for when you are creating a logo or emblem. As of right now I am starting to like Adobe Illustrator better, because I understand it a little more clearly than Photoshop, and I feel as though it is much easier to use. I like how you can use symbols and images, and it won't distort the view even if you make the image larger. I am glad that we are learning how to use both applications although, because they are both very good programs, and are very fun and easy to use when doing projects.
